Being in Service of Others

By Gail Camacho, Partner & Chief Operating Officer

We’ve seen a lot of transitions at Informing Change—the passing of our CEO, COVID-19, and ownership changes—and, amid an economic downturn confronting the social sector, limited funding opportunities, fragile “commitments” to equity-related work, and increasing harm inflicted on the communities we serve, we continue to face more.

In September 2026, I celebrated 18 years at Informing Change and had the opportunity to share my career story with Bold Journey. In reflecting on where I came from, what I’ve learned, and the type of leader I am today, I’m even more certain of what’s guided me through all of this. It’s my purpose: to be in service of others. It’s what grounds me in my work ethic and experience as I continue guiding our company through an ever-shifting landscape.

Having worked in the social sector for 26 years, I believe in modeling expectations, honest communication, and trusting yourself. I’m aware of what’s outside my control and focus on taking care of our staff, while being transparent about what we are facing and how we can get through this together. I don’t have all the answers, but I know what this company has overcome and what we can and will achieve.

I’m privileged to have seen this company through so much and to continue my service and support to the team, our clients, and our communities. My story is one of many, but I hope you find comfort in what I share and confirmation of what’s working on your bold journey.
