Leadership for the New Community Clinics Era: Promising Practices, Opportunities and Challenges

Since many healthcare organizations are facing an impending leadership gap while dealing with complex changes stemming from healthcare reform, it is imperative that the community clinics field identify the best ways to support its current and future leaders. Given the traditional focus of leadership development on individuals, it is also important to view leadership more broadly in a way that includes team-based and networked approaches, which can more effectively benefit leadership within and across organizations and the clinics field.
During this interactive group session, BTW Director of Evaluation & Organizational Learning Kim Ammann Howard will join Cecilia Echeverria, Program Officer at the Blue Shield of California Foundation; Hermann Spetzler, CEO of Open Door Community Health Centers; and Lauren Hill, Director of Training and Special Projects at Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley to discuss their experiences supporting, participating in and evaluating a variety of leadership development supports. The panel will highlight lessons learned from the Clinic Leadership Institute, which for the past four years has worked to move emerging clinic leaders into executive positions through a variety of activities and learning modalities. The panel will also discuss new leadership support evolving from these efforts including those focused on executive clinic teams and new CEOs and CFOs.
