Grantmakers for Effective Organizations
In November 2011, Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO) engaged Informing Change to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the Scaling What Works Initiative. The Initiative is a three-year, $4.5 million project that amplifies the efforts of the Social Innovation Fund (SIF) to help philanthropy and the public sector most successfully broaden and deepen nonprofits’ impact to create meaningful social change.
The SIF, administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, allocates resources to grantmakers to expand the impact of nonprofit organizations in three priority areas—economic opportunity, youth development and healthy futures. GEO’s Scaling What Works Initiative augments these efforts by facilitating relationship-building and collaborative learning and action between philanthropy and the public sector to enhance grantmakers’ scope and effectiveness.
Informing Change is conducting a multi-stage evaluation to inform the Initiative in real time, assess the effectiveness of Scaling What Works activities and learnings to inform the larger field of grantmaking and achieve greater collective impact.
