The David & Lucile Packard Foundation After-school & Summer Enrichment Subprogram
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation is a major global grantmaking foundation, working with partners around the world to improve the lives of children, families, and communities. As one component of that work, the Foundation’s After-school and Summer Enrichment Subprogram supports a sustainable system to provide programmatic and financial support for after-school and summer enrichment programs in California.
In 2008, the Foundation hired Informing Change to design and implement a multi-year evaluation of the After-school and Summer Enrichment Subprogram. The evaluation is designed to determine whether the Subprogram’s investments are helping to build and support a vibrant after-school and summer enrichment sector in California and whether the programs and professionals in those fields are learning and improving over time. Informing Change has collected data from a broad range of stakeholders, using mixed methods to look within as well as across the Subprogram’s key strategies.
Through this long-term partnership with the Packard Foundation, Informing Change has served as both an evaluator and thought partner to help the Foundation integrate and modify its summer learning and after-school investments in response to changing conditions, such as evolving approaches to summer learning, as well as a dynamic political context.
